"Jimmy Wiggins is to comedy
what salt and butter is to
popcorn”...[/i]-Steve Schiripa, Riviera Hotel -
Las Vegas
Born a “war baby”" in 1941, Jimmy
Wiggins learned to talk funny and began his
career performing a singing & dancing
cowboy act on the bar tops in his Chicago
neighborhood saloons, thereby earning
beer money for his Grandpa, who became
his very first agent in show business.
In his teen years, Wiggins grew into the
role of 'juvenile delinquent.' He attended
Public, Lutheran, Methodist, Jewish and
Catholic Schools, learning just enough
larceny to get him sent to the Illinois State
Reformatory where Wiggins practiced
defending himself from hecklers… very
big hecklers.
Wiggins straightened himself out
eventually. Although never fully reformed,
he became a 'Hippie Suburbanite' raising
five kids and many plants, plus studying
acting at Chicago's GoodmTheatertre,
eventually landing a role in the movie,
Cooley High, playing White Trickick.”
In his thirties,Wiggins followed a dream
and a court order, by moving to Hollywood
to become a stand up comic. He appeared
on “The Mike Douglas Show,” “The Toni
Tennile Show,” and wrote comedy material
for George Carlin, Chuck Barris and David
Letterman.
By his forties, Wiggins escaped
Hollywood, and journeyed country-wide,
performing in saloons and comedy clubs,
gathering a loyal following for as, "The
Last Hippie in America.”
He has since appeared on the nationwide
syndicated radio show, “Bob & Tom.” He
received a standing ovation after his
performance on “The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno.” Wiggins was the center of
controversy on NBC's “Last Comic
Standing” when celebrity judges Drew
Carey and Brett Butler were visibly upset
when Wiggins didn't make the final cut,
despite their votes to the contrary.
His act is a funny, provocative, intimate
conversation with the audience. A gentle
reflection on family, survival and life in
general delivered in his trademark deep,
raspy voice. Jimmy is a one of a kind
comedian. Although self described as “The
Last Hippie in America,” his humor is
never out of date.
His stage persona is best described a
wise man with sage like advise. Wiggins
would be mistaken for a philosopher if he
wasn't so funny. Wiggins is on target
hilarious; cool; deliberate; soft spoken.
During his hour long performance, there
are moments of social bite, dreamy
theology and uproarious silliness, yet he is
pure and truthful.
